My work is based on an ongoing fascination for the idea of the vessel-container in a literal as well
as figurative sense. I understand the vessel-object as a meeting point between the maker and the
perceiver. Both take actively part in the creation of new interpretations and realities. Within the
idea of the vessel, I am particularly interested in questions such as the inside and outside, the
passage between the two, the organic and constructed, the surface as bearer of influences from both
sides and questions of reflection from one vessel-container onto another. The idea of the vessel
allows me to explore inner and outer spaces of the human existence which – in the best
case – leads to what Graham Gordon called an advanced understanding of the world
we inhabit.
An article on the subject matter ‚Das Gefäss als Bedeutungsträger,
Überlegungen zu einer grundlegenden Form menschlichen Seins’ was recently
published in Werkspuren, 2008, SWV (ed.), No. 1, Zurich.
